Blue Legs
3 channel video installation, audio Duration: 7 minutes 2025
Filmed on location in a working shipyard, a ship graveyard and aboard a trawler in Oslofjord, Blue Legs traverses the sites and rusted surfaces of maritime industry. Alongside these more visible markers of the fishing industry, the video also turns to the former Fisheries School in Baltimore, an Industrial Boys School (est. 1886), where the boys were known colloquially as 'blue legs'. From the drum beat of school bands to the cyclical ebb and flood of tides, the artwork considers the overlapping histories and altered rhythms of the ocean as a fraught space where extractive practices instrumentalise both human and nonhuman lives in the enduring time of marine ecosystem damage and global fish population depletion.
